EkStep Genie
Learning designed for curious children in rural India

The Genie app let children explore and download educational content, but its material-design interface was built for intent-driven adult navigation, not for curious children in rural India.
Constraints were real: patchy connectivity, shared devices, under-prepared educators and children of different levels in the same class.
The goal was to bridge the learning gap between rural children and their urban counterparts.
- [ 01 ]
On-site research
Worked directly with children and educators, studied device and network availability, and gathered input from government education providers.
- [ 02 ]
Curiosity-led flow
Reworked the UX to be fluid and less explicit, so children could explore with little or no help.
- [ 03 ]
Hold attention
Designed for sustained 10 to 20 minute sessions, aware of content mix, device and environment.
- [ 04 ]
Measure offline
Used offline telemetry synced over Wi-Fi to measure real session lengths and time-to-favourite-content.

A friendlier, more engaging learning app, nominated for the UX Design Awards in Berlin.
